When you speak of “green decor,” there are two ways you can use the word “green.” You might be looking for home furnishings that are literally the color green, like the vintage green pottery and furnishings pictured here — or you might be looking for green furnishings that are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and healthy to live with. I’m a huge fan of both types of green, but if you’re looking for sustainable green furnishings in all color palettes, try this page of green interior design trends for 2024. If you’re looking for ideas to decorate a green-colored room, read on — and be assured that I also have a strong preference for sustainable, organic, healthy, earth-friendly decor.
In terms of sustainability, the greenest pieces tend to be secondhand. If you’re able to find vintage furnishings to use in your space, that saves them from cluttering up a landfill. You can draw inspiration from the vintage art glass vases and vintage pottery featured in these photos; these are a few examples of home furnishings that are green in every sense of the word. They have stood the test of time and are still desirable to use for decorating with even all these decades after their initial creation. To me, this is the essence of green, sustainable decor; it is all about collecting furnishings that your children and grandchildren will be excited to inherit and pass on to their heirs after you are gone.
