I can think of three different ways to make your own curtains:
- 1. Sew your curtains using fabric, thread, a pattern, and a sewing machine.
- 2. Make beaded curtains.
- 3. Crochet your curtains using crochet thread and a crochet hook. You can use a pattern, if you can find one, but you’re likely to have a hard time finding a crochet curtain pattern that’s exactly the size you need it and exactly the design you want. Therefore, if you’re interested in trying this approach to curtain making, I recommend designing your own pattern.
The filet crochet technique is a good one to use because the open areas in filet crochet let in a lot of light, which is ideal if you want your space to be well-lit.
Scroll down to see examples of filet crochet curtains that other people have made. In the Mediterranean region, it’s popular for homeowners to have glass windows in their front doors. These glass windows are typically covered with lovely curtains providing privacy yet letting in light. Quite a few of these curtain designs are made using filet crochet.
I’m sure there must be other ways to craft DIY curtains, but these are 3 of the most obvious possibilities I can think of.
Here are several example pictures with different ideas for how you could make filet crochet curtains:
